We stop innumerable times as our childish instinct is aroused as we see lines up lines of wild strawberries and can’t resist ourselves but to pick them up and gorge. The snow peaks soon come to view and we can feel the chilly wind. Slowly we can see ahead of us the shelter for the night – the trekker’s hut of Khatia. By 7.30 we reach Waliagarh where we bow our head in the shrine and offer our prayers for a safe trek to Kafni and her holy darshan. Meanwhile, the sight hundreds of sheep feasting on the rich alpine grass is a treat to our eyes. The tree-line has been left far behind and we enter a barren zone of boulders and rocks and a small stream of the Kafni River flowing below. All around us are snow peaks. A misty clouds suddenly come in as we ponder would we blessed with a good view of the Kafni Glacier. Our prayers are answered as the clouds move across and up ahead we could see the Kafni Glacier laden with black ice. To reach the mouth of the glacier we still have to trek another half a kilometer through snow and some boulder hopping. Finally, we reach the mouth and witness the origin of the Kafni stream from within the glacier. We sit for some time soaking in the silence and thanking the Mother for her glorious darshan.
